Scientist-Chickpea Breeding
Research Program/Office : Research Program-Grain Legumes
Location : Patancheru, Andhra Pradesh
Cadre : SMG
Reports to : Principal Scientist-Chickpea Breeding
Job Responsibilities:
  • Develop improved breeding lines of chickpea using integrated breeding approaches.
  • Plan and execute field and laboratory experiments related to chickpea breeding.
  • Analyze, summarize, and interpret the data of the experiments; prepare reports and papers for publication in the reputed journals; prepare project proposals for donor funding.
  • Work closely with scientists from other disciplines and interact with end users (farmers, traders, consumers, etc.); develop linkages and collaborative research projects with advanced research organizations and national agricultural research systems (NARS).
  • Work closely with NARS partners and developmental agencies for enhancing adoption of improved chickpea cultivars.
  • Undertake capacity building initiatives for stakeholders in the area of chickpea research for development.

Education and Skills :
  • PhD degree in Plant Breeding and Genetics or in Plant Biology/Plant Sciences with specialization in plant breeding and genetics with at least 2 years of post-doctoral experience in plant breeding. Experience in molecular breeding is an advantage.
  • Good track record of research publications in reputed international journals.
  • Strong analytical skills, knowledge of computer applications.
  • Innovative, energetic individual with demonstrated contributions to the field of agriculture and committed to seeing measurable impacts at farm level.
  • Excellent in English (both spoken and written)
  • Experience in working with interdisciplinary teams.
  • Willingness to travel within the region.

Scientist - Pearl Millet Breeding
Research Program/Office: Research Program-Dryland Cereals
Location: Patancheru, Andhra Pradesh

Reports to : Research Program Director-Dryland Cereals
Job Responsibilities:
  • Responsible for pearl millet biofortification breeding.
  • Able to plan, execute, analyze and report research results (both as project reports and peer-reviewed publications).
  • Should have a good knowledge of hybrid parents development and breeding, biometrical genetics and experimental statistics.
  • Good knowledge and understanding of field work, and knowledge and understanding of applied genomics.
  • Should be a good team player, with ability to work in a multi-disciplinary team involving research partners from the public and private sector.
