Job Description & Desired Competence
The positions are for RGCB's Bio-Innovation Center which is an approved project of Government of India, Department of Biotechnology. The project will be for five years and then further extended subject to recommended procedures of the Government of India. All positions will initially be for 12 months and then extended based on an performance assessment and audit for the remaining duration of the project.
The Biotechnology Services Officer (BSO) will be responsible for operation and maintenance of RGCB Bio-InovationCenter's core service facilities including the following:
  1. Flow cytometry
  2. Confocal Imaging & High resolution microscopy
  3. Core Genomics &Next Generation Sequencing (NGS)
  4. Central Histotechnology & Cytotechnology Services.
Potential BSO applicants for the Flow Cytometery Core Facility should have adequate documented expertise in operating & managing flow cytometers including flow cytometry analysis, sorting, quality checks &, trouble shooting, data analysis, training students on flow cytopmetry experiments besides expertise in design of flow cytometry experiments.
Potential BSO applicants for the Confocal and High resolution microscopy facility should have adequate documented expertise in operating & managing Fluorescent microscopy and confocal bioimagers, use of image analysis softwares as well as extensive expertise in running commercial laser scanning confocal microscope for biological research.
Potential BSO applicants for the next generation sequencing facility should have adequate documented expertise in genomic and molecular biology techniques, operating & managing DNA sequencers including next-generation sequencing equipment and  high-throughput liquid handling robotics, analyzing and interpreting sequencing results.  Additional skills in laboratory automation, ability to program in a scripting language and statistically analyze large-scale data sets are   strongly desired.
Potential BSO applicants for the core histotechnology and cytotechnology facility services hould have adequate documented expertise in procedures for histotechnology & cytotechnology including standardized preparation of slides of tissues for light microscopic studies involving fixation, dehydration, embedding, sectioning, staining & mounting, preparation of frozen tissue sections, cutting serial sections of complicated anatomical structures requiring precise positioning and delicate preparation. Additional desrirable skills include preparation of tissue for electron microscopic studies.
Minimum Qualifications
  1. First Class - B Tech (Bio Technology/Biomedical Engineering) orPost graduate degree inMedical Laboratory Technology(MLT) or MSc (Biotechnology or Life Science) with minimum 60% mark aggregate or equivalentfrom a recognized University.
  2. Documented experience inoperation and maintenance of the instruments and skills described above from a reputed research centre or laboratory.
  3. Maximum upper age limit is 28 years as on 01.05.2014.

General Conditions/ Instructions
  1. 1) The Director, RGCB reserves right to not to fill the post advertised.
  2. Relaxations and concessions will be in accordance with the RGCB Rules and Regulations. Relaxation in age, educational qualifications and/ or experience will be considered in case of outstanding candidates and/ or persons already holding analogous positions in Government Scientific Organisations/ Research Institutions.
  3. The candidates must be citizens of India.
  4. Contract employees shall not be entitled to any allowance/facilities such as Transport Allowance, LTC, Children Education Allowance, Bonus, Incentives, etc. that are available for permanent employees of RGCB.
  5. In case of continuance of contract beyond one year period, such staff may be considered for grant of an increment @5% on their emoluments on completion of every twelve calendar months of work based on performance during the period.
  6. A modified assured career progression will be available to contract employees. This scheme will be limited to three stages on completion of 10 years, 20 years and 30 years.
  7. Contract employees are eligible for Provident Fund at the ratio as applicable under the EPF Act.
  8. Contract employees are eligible for ten days of Earned Leave for every completed half year period of employment. Further, female employees are eligible for maternity leave for a maximum period of 90 days.
  9. Contract employees are covered under a Medical Group Insurance Scheme under which they contribute 1% of their total emoluments towards this scheme.
  10. The Contract employees shall not have any claim whatsoever for any type of permanent appointment in RGCB by virtue of their holding the contract position in RGCB.
  11. Office Discipline and Conduct Rules of RGCB are applicable to all contract employees of RGCB.
  12. Contract employees will be terminated automatically on completion of the contract period, unless the contract is extended for further period. Contract appointment can be made for a maximum period of 5 years at a time at relevant pay scales of a consolidated equivalent. Their posting at next appropriate level will be subject to satisfactory evaluation of their performance by a duly designated committee.
  13. Contract employment can be terminated at any time during tenure of the contract period by giving one month notice on either side. RGCB can terminate the contract by giving one month wages in lieu of the notice period of one month. In exceptional cases, such contract appointments may be cancelled by the Director during the tenure of contract without serving any notice on “with immediate effect basis”.
  14. Merely fulfilling the requirements in the advertisement will not automatically entitle any candidate to be called for interview. The applications received will be scrutinized and candidates who in the opinion of the institute are likely to be suitable will be shortlisted for calling for interview. The decision of the institute in all these matters will be final. No interim enquiries/ correspondence/ communication of any sort will be entertained in the matter.
  15. Persons working under the Government/Government Autonomous Bodies shall submit their applications through proper channel. They may, however, send an advance copy of the application along with enclosures as required. Those who are unable to forward their application through proper channel may submit NOC from their employer at the time of selection interview, if shortlisted. Without this NOC, the applicant will not be allowed to attend the selection interview.
  16. Canvassing in any manner would entail disqualification of the candidature.
  17. Incomplete applications or applications without copies of certificates or applications received after the last date will be rejected.
  18.
