NIAB, an autonomous institute under the aegis of Department of Biotechnology, Government of India, is aimed to harness novel and emerging biotechnologies and create knowledge in the cutting edge areas for improving animal health and productivity. The Institute’s research focus is on animal genetics and genomics, transgenic technology, reproductive technology, infectious diseases, nutritional enrichment, and bioinformatics. The Institute aims at translational research leading to genetic enhancement of Indian Livestock species and development of novel vaccines, diagnostics
and improved therapeutic molecules for farm animals. The Institute plans to promote bio
entrepreneurship by providing supportive and stimulating academic and creative environment for commercial tenants involved in the development of farm animal based products and services.
NIAB is looking for distinguished Scientists and visionary academic leaders with outstanding record of research accomplishments to establish strong centers of research to address the problems of livestock. Effective interpersonal and leadership skills and the ability and commitment to work effectively with colleagues as part of inter-disciplinary team are required. NIAB is looking for dedicated and committed Scientists who believe in institution building and have a passion for academic excellence and quality research for filling FOUR positions in the following priority areas:
1. ANIMAL GENETICS & GENOMICS:
Responsibilities: The selected candidate is expected to teach Genetics (Quantitative & Population Genetics) and Genomics at PG level, administer the program and undertake cutting edge research in quantitative and population genetics aimed at genetic improvement of livestock using modern tools of genomics. In addition candidate is expected to attract external funding to establish and lead research programs in the area of genetic improvement of farm animals.
Required Skills: Ph. D in Quantitative/ Population Genetics/ Animal Breeding or related discipline; outstanding contribution to research; a proven track record of scholarly research and publications of international quality in top-ranked peer-reviewed journals, especially in relation to Genetics of Livestock species; expertise and capacity to teach graduate students in specialist courses covering major aspects of quantitative genetics and/or population genetics/ Animal Breeding. Experience of supervising doctoral students will be an advantage.
2. REPRODUCTIVE BIOLOGY & BIOTECHNOLOGY:
Responsibilities: The selected candidate is expected to establish a strong research programme in livestock reproduction/ developmental biology. The candidate is expected to undertake cutting edge research to address reproductive problems in livestock by employing a combination of traditional and modern biological approaches to create new knowledge and develop novel diagnostics and therapeutic tools for infertility in livestock. In addition to his or her own research programme he/she will be expected to provide support to research projects at NIAB aimed at creation of transgenic livestock.
Required Skills: Ph.D in Veterinary sciences / Animal Sciences / Modern Biology /Livestock Reproduction or in a related area with demonstrated excellence in research and publications of international quality in top-ranked peer-reviewed journals; strong potential for securing independent and collaborative extramural funding. Experience of supervising doctoral students will be an advantage.
3. BIOINFORMATICS:
Responsibilities: The selected candidate is expected to lead the bioinformatics team and work in an interdisciplinary environment with focus on the development and application of computational tools to problems of livestock industry; including genomics, NGS data analysis, proteomics, transcriptomics and metabolomics data to understand biological processes in close collaboration with experimental scientists. As a leader of the team, he is expected to train and mentor the members for NGS data analysis and bio-computing software development. In addition he is expected to participate in teaching relevant courses for Masters Students.
Required skills: The candidate should have Ph. D in a related discipline with publications of international quality in top-ranked peer-reviewed journals; Experience in high performance computing, analyzing/ processing next-generation sequencing data for Whole Genome Assembly, Transcriptome assembly, PAVs, CNVs, SNPs, RNAseq, CHIPseq. Strong experience in writing computer programs in at least one widely used language (e.g., Python, C++, and R) will be desirable: molecular modeling and design and pathway networking analysis. Experience of supervising doctoral students will be an advantage.
4. Infectious Diseases:
Responsibilities: The selected candidate is expected to establish a strong centre of research in Infectious Diseases to understand the mechanisms involved in host – pathogen interactions and identify novel targets for development of diagnostics, vaccines and therapeutic molecules for viral/bacterial/fungal/parasitic diseases of livestock. The candidate is expected to develop collaborative research programmes with Scientists working in other disciplines.
Required Skills: The candidate should have Ph.D and post – doctoral research experience in infectious diseases of livestock or in a related area. The candidate should have been successful in securing external funding and track record of outstanding publications in top-ranked peer-reviewed journals, especially in the field of translational immunology.
Outstanding scientists in other related areas are also encouraged to apply.
Appointments can be made at any level from Scientist-C to Scientist-G depending upon the qualifications and experience. The details regarding different pay structure, essential qualifications and age etc. is given below:
1. Scientist – G
(A) Pay Band + Grade Pay: Rs. 37,400 – 67,000 + 10,000 G.P
(B) Essential Qualifications:
Ph.D. in a relevant area from a recognized University with 10 years of R&D experience with original work as evidenced by patents or publications in top ranked peer-reviewed journals; strong potential for securing and sustaining independent and collaborative extramural funding.
(C) Age: 50 Years
2. Scientist – F
(A) Pay Band + Grade Pay: Rs. 37,400 – 67,000 + 8,900 G.P
(B) Essential Qualifications: Ph.D. in a relevant area from a recognized University with 7 years of R&D experience with original work as evidenced by patents or publications in top ranked peer-reviewed journals; strong potential for securing and sustaining independent and collaborative extramural funding.
(C) Age: 50 Years
3. Scientist – E
(A) Pay Band + Grade Pay: Rs. 37,400 – 67,000 + 8,700 G.P
(B) Essential Qualifications:
Ph.D. in a relevant area from a recognized University with 5 years of R&D experience with
original work as evidenced by patents or publications in top ranked peer-reviewed journals; strong potential for securing and sustaining independent and collaborative extramural funding.
(C) Age: 45 Years
4. Scientist – D
A) Pay Band + Grade Pay: Rs. 15,600 – 39,100 + 7,600 G.P
B) Essential Qualifications:
Ph.D. in a relevant area from a recognized University with 2 years of R&D experience with
original work as evidenced by patents or publications in top ranked peer-reviewed journals; strong potential for securing and sustaining independent and collaborative extramural funding.
C) Age: 40 Years
5. Scientist – C
A) Pay Band + Grade Pay: Rs. 15,600 – 39,100 + 6,600 G.P
B) Essential Qualifications:
Ph.D. in a relevant area from a recognized University with original work as evidenced by
patents or publications in top ranked peer-reviewed journals; strong potential for securing and sustaining independent and collaborative extramural funding.
C) Age: 35 Years
General Information and Conditions:
1. The number of positions is provisional and may vary at the time of selection.
2. All the positions carry usual allowances as admissible to Central Government Employees of the same pay and status posted at Hyderabad. Higher initial start may be considered in deserving cases.
3. It may be possible to consider appointments with grade lower than the grade advertised (in the same group) depending upon the recommendations of the Selection Committee.
4. Designations of various posts may change.
5. The selected candidates with Veterinary Degrees may require to take up additional responsibilities connected to veterinary practice in the maintenance of animal farms. In such a case they will be paid non-practicing allowance as per the Government of India rules.
6. Mere fulfilling minimum qualifications will not entitle a candidate for being called for interview.
The applications will be screened by a Committee and shortlisted candidates will be called for interview. The decision of the Controlling Authority will be final in this respect.
7. Applications from employees working in Government Departments, Public Sector
Undertakings and Government funded research agencies will be considered only if forwarded through proper channel and with a clear certificate that the applicant will be relieved within one month of the receipt of appointment order.
8. Canvassing in any form and/or bringing in any influence, political or otherwise will automatically disqualify the candidate for the post.
9. Reservations as per the Government of India norms in respect of SC / ST / OBC / PWD etc. will apply.
10. Age limits shall be reckoned as on the closing date for receipt of application. However, in case of exceptionally qualified candidates the upper age limit may be relaxed with the prior approval of the competent authority.
11. The upper age limit is however, relaxable up to 05 years for SC/ST and 03 years for OBC as per the Government orders in force only in those cases where the posts are reserved for respective categories, on production of relevant certificates in the prescribed format signed by the specified authority at the time of interview. The OBC candidates should produce the prescribed certificate valid for employment under Central Government.
12 Reservation for persons with disability (PWD) will be in accordance with section 33 of
Disabilities Act, 1995 will apply.
13. Experience for the positions mentioned in the advertisement will be reckoned from the date of acquiring the qualification prescribed for the position.
14. Candidates called for test / interview will be paid single second class rail fare from the actual place of undertaking the journey or from the normal place of residence whichever is nearer to Secunderabad Railway Station on production of relevant document of travel. However, reservation and sleeper charges and surcharge on superfast trains will be admitted if requisite ticket / receipt etc. is submitted as proof of having actually incurred the expenses. In the
absence of valid details in the TA claim, the surcharges, etc., will not be allowed.
15. Incomplete applications and/or the applications received after the last date are not likely to be considered.
16. The perspective candidates are encouraged to have informal contact with the institute faculty for delivering a seminar and personal discussion.
17. No fee for SC / ST / PWD / Women / Abroad candidates. Remaining candidates are required to pay the application fee.

20. These positions will be filled initially for 5 years and will be renewed depending upon

(e) After online submission, candidates should take a print out of the computer generated
application form, paste a recent passport sized photograph and sign on each page of the
form & on the photograph.
