RECRUITMENTS OF DEANS AND SCIENTISTS: DIRECT RECRUITMENT OR ON DEPUTATION

National
Agri-Food Biotechnology Institute (NABI), Mohali, is an autonomous
R&D Institute under Government of India, Department of
Biotechnology. The institute is a state of the art facility in globally
competitive and translatable research areas at the interface of
agricultural biotechnology, food processing and nutritional sciences.
The campus is being established on 35 acres of land in Knowledge City,
Sector-81, Mohali. It is currently operating from the above address in
Mohali. The applications are invited from individuals with outstanding
research record and enthusiasm to develop an organization with world
class environment, the best of science, and partnerships with public and
private sector.
NABI needs staff of highest
calibre and potential at various levels as shown below. The number of
faculty positions is flexible. There are three positions of Deans, one
each in Agricultural, Food and Nutritional Biotechnology.

Areas of specialisation as essential qualifications:
Research
experience as shown above, after submission of PhD thesis or the award
of highest Master’s degree. Interest (evidenced by publications in high
IF journals, patents of proven utility and, or products of applied
value) relevant and critical to the following areas of research.
1. Plant Molecular Biology:
(i) Post harvest enhancement of shelf life and quality of fruit crops, cereals, legumes and vegetables.
(ii) Nutritional improvement of cereals, legumes and fruit crops.
(iii) Development of vectors for gene delivery in food crops, specially cereals and fruit crops.
(iv) Small RNA research applied to biology and improvement of food crops.
(v) Non transgenic approaches to genetic engineering in plants.
(vi) Metabolomic, proteomic and genomic applications to identify biomarkers, signal transduction,
pathway regulation and applications to regulating plant growth and development.
2. Regulatory Research: GM crops regulatory research, biosafety, environmental safety, tracing tools, global and national policy, chemical and functional equivalence.
3. Biomaterials & Enzymes: Applications of biopolymers, smart polymers, nanomaterials, edible coatings, bioactive molecules and enzymes for enhancing post-harvest shelf life of fruits and vegetables.
4. Food Designing: Improving structure and quality of foods, using enzymes, biomolecules and microbes
5. Bioinformatics: Nucleic acid bioinformatics for differential transcriptomic, genomic analysis, pathway mapping, system biology preferably with skills in
(a) Machine learning or (b) High Performance Computing or
(c )Biostatistics.
6. Nutritional Biology: Bioprocessing of foods for enhancing micronutrition and bioavailability
7. Plant Tissue Culture: Micropropagation, double haploid development, genetic transformation of cereals and fruit crops.

Selection Process: The
applications and nominations will be received against the advertised
positions. Suitably constituted Screening Committee will screen the
applications in one or two stages on the basis of essential
qualifications, recommendation letters, research outcomes and
experience. The applicants identified as highly promising will be
invited for interactions at the institute and for discussions with
suitably constituted Selection Committee. The successful applicants will
be invited to join.
General conditions for Recruitment: 1)
This is a rolling advertisement. Applications can be submitted any time
till November 30, 2013. The date for determining the age
limit/experience/qualification shall be May 31and Nov 30, when the
applications received till that date will be screened.
2) The upper age limit is relaxable for SC/ST/OBC candidates, as per Govt. of India norms.
3) In addition to the usual pay & allowances as admissible vide 6th Pay Commission in the above scales, other benefits such as Leave Travel Concession, Medical expenses, House rent Allowance, Transport Allowance, Telephone Expenses etc. are also available as per rules.
4) The Institute encourages creation of knowledge and benefit sharing related to IPR.
5) Candidates will be governed by New pension Scheme of Central Government effective from 01/04/2004.
6) Appointment will be made initially on contract in project mode for a period of 5 years with an initial probation period of two years which may be extended / curtailed at the discretion of the Competent Authority. Further continuation, if any will depend on candidate’s performance during the initial period of five years.

Candidate’s experience and proven ability for research and team building in target area are most critical to the selection procedure. In this respect, at least three confidential letters of reference addressed by email directly to the Executive Director (scientistrectt13@nabi.res.in) should be arranged. These should comment upon:
I. Candidate’s skills of strength suitability for path breaking research & innovative thinking.
II. Ability to function independently as well as in teams.
III. Execute state of the art experiments and research programs of fundamental and / or applied nature
11) Nominations by distinguished experts may be considered, depending upon merit and the area of
expertise.
12) In case of candidates employed in permanent posts, request for deputation and salary protection
will be considered.
13) Incomplete applications will be summarily rejected.
14) In case a large number of applications are received, screening will be done to limit the number of candidates to those possessing higher qualification or experience and, if required, a written examination may additionally be conducted for further screening.

disqualification of the candidate. The decision of NABI in all matters
relating to eligibility, acceptance or rejection of application, mode of
selection, and conduct of interviews will be final and binding on the
