Experience/Requirements: Requires a minimum of 3 years laboratory experience with a Bachelor’s Degree or 2 years experience with a Master’s Degree. A thorough knowledge of experimental design and demonstrated competence in utilizing new techniques, procedures and technologies to drive process improvements is required. Excellent verbal/written communication skills and strong computer skills in Excel are required. Must be a self-motivated individual that can function both independently, as well as part of a team. The individual should have a keen sense of urgency to get the job done, excellent lab hands and attention to detail, positive behavioral skills and be flexible to rapidly changing priorities. Previous experience with cell culture and/or protein purification is a plus.
Working Conditions: Works in a laboratory environment with specialized equipment and will be required to periodically operate automated and semi-automated equipment. May be required to sit or stand for long periods of time while performing duties and may require lifting upwards of 40lbs. Must be able to work overtime and flexible shifts as business demands.

Areas of specialisation as essential qualifications:
Research experience as shown above, after submission of PhD thesis or the award of highest Master’s degree. Interest (evidenced by publications in high IF journals, patents of proven utility and, or products of applied value) relevant and critical to the following areas of research.
1. Plant Molecular Biology:
(i) Post harvest enhancement of shelf life and quality of fruit crops, cereals, legumes and vegetables.
(ii) Nutritional improvement of cereals, legumes and fruit crops.
(iii) Development of vectors for gene delivery in food crops, specially cereals and fruit crops.
(iv) Small RNA research applied to biology and improvement of food crops.
(v) Non transgenic approaches to genetic engineering in plants.

2. Regulatory Research: GM crops regulatory research, biosafety, environmental safety, tracing tools, global and national policy, chemical and functional equivalence.
3. Biomaterials & Enzymes: Applications of biopolymers, smart polymers, nanomaterials, edible coatings, bioactive molecules and enzymes for enhancing post-harvest shelf life of fruits and vegetables.
4. Food Designing: Improving structure and quality of foods, using enzymes, biomolecules and microbes
5. Bioinformatics: Nucleic acid bioinformatics for differential transcriptomic, genomic analysis, pathway mapping, system biology preferably with skills in
(a) Machine learning or (b) High Performance Computing or
(c )Biostatistics.
6. Nutritional Biology: Bioprocessing of foods for enhancing micronutrition and bioavailability
7. Plant Tissue Culture: Micropropagation, double haploid development, genetic transformation of cereals and fruit crops.
Selection Process: The applications and nominations will be received against the advertised positions. Suitably constituted Screening Committee will screen the applications in one or two stages on the basis of essential qualifications, recommendation letters, research outcomes and experience. Plant transformation is part of trait characterization and development (TCD) catering to the needs of different biotech traits programs at DKC Hyderabad. Incumbent person will serve on the rice transformation team, working in the lab in a project based environment and would be involved in day to day research activities. The Wildlife Institute of India (WII) is a premier national autonomous Institution of the Ministry of Environment and Forests (MoE&F), Government of India in the field of teaching, training and research. The institute has been assigned a task by the National Tiger Conservation Authority, Govt. of India, to cover major landscapes for ‘Monitoring of tigers, co-predators, prey and their habitat in India’. The WII wishes to engage 35 Research Biologists (31 -Field Component and 04-Genetics Component) on a contractual basis for the project titled “All India monitoring of tigers, co-predators and prey”. The assignment will be up to 31st March 2015 initially, which may be extended for further period(s) according to project requirements and satisfactory performance of the individuals. The essential and desirable qualifications, terms and conditions and how to apply for the available positions are given below. 1. 30 - Research Biologists (Field Component)
Age: Shall not be more than 35 years as on Friday, 13th September 2013.

Candidate(s) with prior experience in sampling design and animal abundance estimation are preferred. Able to do field work in harsh condition. Knowledge of GIS, GPS, Remote Sensing is desirable.
Population estimation using camera traps, mark recapture, distance sampling and occupancy analysis. Habitat evaluation and human disturbance assessment.
The research work will be carried out in different parts of India. Work will be  primarily at field sites with occasional visits to the HQ at Dehradun.
2. 01 Senior Research Biologist (Field Component)
Age: Shall not be more than 40 years as on Friday, 13th September 2013.
Masters’ Degree in Wildlife Science/Botany/Zoology/Forestry/ Life Science/Environmental Sciences/ Agricultural Science/Veterinary Science/Biotechnology/ with a minimum of 55% aggregate marks from a recognized University. A candidate should hold a Ph.D. Degree in relevant field or over 4 years of research experience after Publications in relevant field and experience in animal abundance estimation techniques.
Knowledge of Program MARK, DISTANCE, DENSITY, SPACECAP and PRESENCE.
Analysis of large scale data on animal abundance and indices, field supervision and
training, report writing. Work will be both at HQ in Dehradun, with several field visits.
3. 03 Research Biologists (Genetics Component)
Age: Shall not be more than 30 years as on Friday, 13th September 2013.
Masters’ Degree in Wildlife Science/Genetics/Biotechnology/ Bioscience/Botany/Zoology with a minimum of 55% aggregate marks from a recognized University.
Candidate(s) with prior experience in DNA extraction, PCR, Analysis of genetic data especially sequence and microsatellite will be given preference.
Developing a genetic database of large carnivores to understand population structure and gene flow. Work will be primarily at Dehradun lab based with some field visits for sample collections.
4. 01 Senior Research Biologist (Genetics Component)
Age: Shall not be more than 40 years as on Friday, 13th September 2013.
Masters’ Degree in Wildlife Science/Genetics/Bioscience/ Biotechnology/Botany/Zoology with a minimum of 55% aggregate marks from a recognized University. A candidate should hold a Ph.D. Degree in relevant field or over 4 years of research experience after MSc.
Experience in conducting research in genetics.
Publications in relevant field and experience in handling large genetic datasets will be given preference.
Laboratory and statistical analysis of genetic data, supervise and conduct DNA extraction, PCR, sequencing, and subsequent analysis for population structure and
gene flow. Report writing and publications. Work will be primarily at Dehradun and Laboratory based, with few field visits.

INSPIRE Faculty Scheme: A Component of ‘Assured Opportunity for Research Career (AORC)’ under INSPIRE
The Department of Science and Technology, Government of India, has launched the ‘Innovation in Science Pursuit for Inspired Research (INSPIRE)’ [http://www.inspire-dst.gov.in] programme in 2008. The programme aims to attract talent for study of science and careers with research. INSPIRE includes many components for different age groups. The importance of Assured Career Opportunity in R&D sector has been recognized. INSPIRE Faculty Award Scheme opens up an ‘Assured Opportunity for Research Career (AORC)’ for young researchers in the age group of 27–32 years. The upper age limit as on 1 July 2013 should be 32 years for considering support for a period of 5 years. However, for SC and ST candidates upper age limit will be 35 years. It offers a contractual research awards to young achievers and opportunity for independent research in the near term and emerge as a future leader in the long term.
Each selected INSPIRE Faculty shall be eligible to receive a consolidated amount equivalent to the entry level salary of an Assistant Professor in any IIT system as an Award amount, in addition to a Research Grant of Rs 7 lakhs per year. The INSPIRE Faculty Award is tenable for a maximum period of 5 (five) years.
Three routes, i.e. Direct (A), Nomination (B) and Institution mode are available for applying by the eligible candidates.
Under ‘Institutions Mode’, reputed academic institutions shall be required to adopt and complete the internal process as per guidelines and mechanisms available for the INSPIRE Faculty Award before forwarding names of pre-selected candidates for final selection by the Apex Committee.

Plant transformation is part of trait characterization and development (TCD) catering to the needs of different biotech traits programs at DKC Hyderabad. Incumbent person will serve on the rice transformation team, working in the lab in a project based environment and would be involved in day to day research activities. Interact with research scientists collect and manage research data.
Major Job Responsibilities
1. Plan, organize and execute experimental works as discussed with the Research Scientist
2. Record all observations, data and results
3. Assist Research Scientists in analyzing the results
4. Upkeep and maintain the Lab records
5. Prepare technical reports, summaries, protocols, and quantitative analyses
6. Provide support for the implementation of good laboratory practices
7. Assist in the order & maintenance of lab supplies

Competencies and Experience Desired

1. A thorough understanding on the basics of plant transformation concepts and procedures (preferably monocots) plant tissue culture and molecular biology.
