Banana Project Based Research Positions

National Agri-Food Biotechnology Institute (NABI), Mohali, is an autonomous R&D Institute under Department of Biotechnology, Government of India. The institute carries out cutting edge research at the interface of agricultural biotechnology, bioinformatics, biostatistics, food processing, postharvest technology, and nutritional sciences. Applications are invited for the following positions under externally funded project “Transfer and Evaluation of Indian Banana with Pro-Vitamin A (PVA) Constructs”:-

1 Name of the position: Project Scientist

Number of Position: One

Area: Plant Metabolic Engineering and Molecular Biology

Essential Qualification: Ph.D. awarded in any branch of life/plant sciences

Desirable Qualification:

a) Excellent academic record with research experience in area relevant to plant metabolic engineering and molecular biology
b) Knowledge and experience of Chromatography and Mass Spectrometry based technological analysis of samples and standardization of methodologies for fractionation, separation and identification of bio-molecules.
c) Relevant research publications in reputed international journals with five or more cumulative impact factor.

Age limit: 35 years as on the last date of receipt of application.

Remuneration: Consolidated @ Rs.40,000/- per month. Leave, medical and other benefits as per NABI rules.

2. Name of the position: Project Fellow

Number of Positions: Two

Area: Plant Genetic Engineering and Molecular Biology

Essential Qualification: Ist Class M.Sc./M.Tech. in Life Science/ Biotechnology/ Biochemistry

Desirable Qualification: Excellent academic record with interest and knowledge of plant genetic transformation and molecular biology.

Age limit: 35 years* as on the last date of receipt of application

Remuneration: Consolidated @ Rs.16, 000/- per month for first 2 years and Rs.18,000/- per month after 2 years. Leave, medical and other benefits as per NABI rules.

3. Name of the position: Lab/Field Project Assistant

Number of Positions: Two

Area: Plant Tissue Culture, Genetic Transformation and Research Farm related activities

Essential Qualification: M.Sc /B. Tech or higher degree in Life Science/ Biotechnology/ Biochemistry/ Botany/ Agriculture/ Agronomy

Desirable qualification:

a) Prior knowledge/experience in plant tissue culture, genetic transformation and maintenance of transgenic plant materials under in-vitro and containment conditions.
b) Prior knowledge/experience for performing various farm related operations and field experiments.
c) Basic knowledge of computer such as MS Office, Excel, Powerpoint, Internet etc.
Job Responsibility: a) To assist scientists and research scholars in experiments
b) Maintenance of records of experiments, instruments and consumables
c) Any other scientific responsibilities assign by in-charge scientist
Age limit: 28 years* as on the last date of receipt of application.

Remuneration: Consolidated @ Rs.10,000/- per month as per NABI rules.

The project is a part of the Multi-Institutional Core Project entitled “Development and Transfer of Technology from Queensland University of Technology (QUT), Australia to India for Bio-fortification and Disease Resistance in Banana”. Project duration is of four years. However, initial appointment against all the above positions shall be for one year and further extension will be granted based on the research progress and accomplishment, but in no case shall exceed the duration of the project.

Suitable candidates will be shortlisted based on their area of qualification, training, research experience and relevance of skills to the project. The shortlisted candidates will be called for interview by a selection committee.

NABI may or may not select candidates against one or more of the above mentioned research positions, depending upon the suitability of the candidate to carry out high quality research. One month notice will be given by either party for the termination of engagement. The engagement is for the specific project as mentioned above and shall give no right whatsoever for automatic consideration against any other position/opportunity at NABI.
