Faculty Scientist Position in Mass Spectrometry

Institute of Bioinformatics (IOB) is an internationally renowned interdisciplinary research institution founded by Dr. Akhilesh Pandey, M.D. Ph.D. in 2002. Dr. Pandey is a pioneer in mass spectrometry-based proteomics and is currently a professor at Mayo Clinic and the director of IOB. There are 8 faculty scientists, 4 physician scientists, 2 postdoctoral fellows and 24 students at IOB working in 3 major focus areas: genetic disorders, infectious diseases and cancer. The institute has many breakthrough achievements and one of them is a landmark paper on "Draft map of the human proteome" that was published in the journal Nature. IOB is a Manipal Academy of Higher Education (MAHE) recognized research center and the selected candidate(s) will also serve as Adjunct Faculty at MAHE to guide Ph.D. students. IOB scientists have produced >600 peer-reviewed papers in international journals. The institute has funding from key funding bodies including DBT, CSIR, DST and ICMR. Most Recently, IOB in collaboration with MAHE and Dr. Reddy's Institute of Life Sciences (DRILS) has established a Clinical Research Centre for research in rare genetic disorders with funding from the DBT Wellcome Trust India Alliance. IOB has a strong track- record in training interdisciplinary scientists through its Ph.D. program with 62 students who have graduated many of whom are current postdoctoral fellows, staff or faculty in internationally renowned institutions.

IOB invites applications from exceptionally bright and motivated individuals with an established record of high-quality research, and a strong commitment to teaching, for a Faculty Scientist position in mass spectrometry.

Qualifications and Experience Required: Applicants must hold a Ph.D. degree in Chemistry, Biochemistry, or a closely related field. A minimum of 5 years of experience in mass spectrometry- based metabolomics, lipidomics or proteomics is required. Demonstrated expertise and research accomplishments in mass spectrometry, supported by a strong record of peer reviewed publications, are essential.

Candidates must have interest in obtaining external grant funding and be in receipt of faculty fellowships such as Ramalingaswami re-entry Fellowship or Ramanujan Fellowship or be willing to apply for similar fellowships/grants

Salary: Successful applicants can expect a salary which, together with allowances, will be commensurate with their qualifications and research experience.
