Applications are invited for filling up following temporary project positions purely in project mode in the Department of Marine Biology, Microbiology & Biochemistry, School of Marine Sciences, Cochin University of Science and Technology, Kochi-682016 in association with Kerala State Pollution Control Board, Kerala State, India, in a Ministry of Earth Sciences (MoES) and ICMAM Project Directorate, Chennai funded marine ecotoxicology project.
The posts are initially for a period of one year extendable further based on performance as per details given below.
MARINE ECOTOXICOLOGY
If numbers of applicants are large, there will be a selection test.
1. Project Scientist – II (PS-II) 1No.
Essential Qualification: First class Master’s Degree in Marine Biology/ Oceanography/ Zoology/Environmental Science/Environmental Toxicology/ Aquatic Biology and Fisheries, Life Sciences, Biochemistry from a recognized University/Institute with at least 3 years of experience in toxicity studies as evidenced by publications/reports.
Desirable: Experience in biomarker enzyme studies, histopathology works and conduct of aquatic toxicity tests.
Nature of works: Overall co-ordination of and day-to day laboratory activities for conduct of bioassay experiment on marine food chain organisms; enzyme assay studies & histopathological techniques; Carrying out data analysis and report preparation.
2. Senior Research Fellow (SRF) 1No.
Essential Qualification: First class Masters’ Degree in Marine Biology/ Oceanography/Zoology/ Environmental Science, Environmental Toxicology/ Aquatic Biology and Fisheries, Life Sciences, Biochemistry from a recognized University/Institute with at least 2 years of experience in toxicity studies as evidenced by publications/reports.
Nature of works: Overall co-ordination of and day-to day laboratory activities for conduct of bioassay experiment on marine food chain organisms; enzyme assay studies & histopathological techniques; Carrying out data analysis and report preparation.
3. Junior Research Fellow (JRF) 1No.
Essential Qualification: First class Masters’ Degree in Marine Biology/ Oceanography/Zoology/ Environmental Science/Environmental Toxicology/Biochemistry /Chemistry/ Chemical Oceanography from a recognized University/Institute. Preferably National Eligibility Test (NET) qualified conducted by CSIR-UGC / ICAR.
Nature of works: Overall co-ordination of and day-to day laboratory activities for conduct of bioassay experiment on marine food chain organisms; enzyme assay studies & histopathological techniques; Carrying out data analysis and report preparation.
4. Field Assistant (FA) 1No.
Essential Qualification: BSc Degree in any science disciplines from a recognized
University/Institute.
Desirable: MSc Degree in any biological science having experience in biological sample collection, handling and maintenance of marine organisms. Preferably have one year working experience in a research laboratory.
Nature of works: Maintaining and up keeping the Ecotoxicology Laboratory. Should take care of supply of seawater and regular cleaning of storage tanks and pumping of seawater, collection of marine organisms and maintain them in the laboratory.
Note:
1. The appointment / extension of service of the project positions will be for a period of one year and, thereafter, it may likely to be extended
2. The Place of posting will be Department of Marine Biology, Microbiology & Biochemistry, School of Marine Sciences, Cochin University of Science and Technology, Kochi-682016, Kerala State, India
3. A panel of candidates will be maintained for any vacancies that may arise in future
4. Number of years of experience will be counted after the year of award of qualifying degree. First class means 60 of marks and above
5. Candidates serving in Central / State Governments / Public Sector Undertaking /
Autonomous bodies etc. shall apply through proper channel. If candidates apply directly their selection will be subject to clearance from their departments.
6. Application should be typed on a thick plain paper in the format given below. It should be supported with a passport size photograph along with attested copies of certificates of educational qualifications, training and experience etc., and the same should be sent to the Dr. S. Bijoy Nandan, Principle Investigator - Marine Ecotoxicology project, Department of Marine Biology, Microbiology & Biochemistry, School of Marine Sciences, Cochin University of Science and Technology, Kochi-682016, Kerala State, India in a cover superscripted "Application for Project Scientist-II/SRF/JRF/ Field Assistant" so as to reach this Department before 30th, November 2012.
Applications without the certificates and experience certificates and photograph are
summarily rejected. Applications received through email will be rejected. Years of
experience needs to be supported by publications/reports.
7. The prescribed essential qualifications are minimum and mere possession of the same does not entitle candidates to be called for interview. Where the number of applications received in response to an advertisement is large and it will not be convenient or possible for the Selection Committee to interview all those candidates, the Committee may restrict the number of candidates for interview to reasonable limit through a written test.
Incomplete applications received after prescribed time limit shall not be entertained.
8. No Traveling Allowance will be admissible for attending the interview.
