Research Scientist

Designation
Research Scientist - Analytical Biochemistry / Regulatory Science

Job Description The Regulatory Science group is a part of E. I. DuPont, India, located in the Hyderabad area. It is responsible for conducting efficacy and safety related studies of genetically modified (GM) crops to be commercialized in India by Pioneer Hi-Bred International, Inc. The group consists of multi-disciplinary teams, including scientists as well as quality assurance and compliance personnel from a broad range of technical fields, working together with regulatory and biotech affairs in India and globally. We are currently seeking candidates as employees to compile technical reports of regulatory studies.

Research Scientist-Analytical Biochemistry, Regulatory Science will be required to plan and conduct food safety studies such as compositional analysis of transgenic crop materials generated from field trials. He/she will also be responsible for designing the study, developing protocols, process samples, coordinate with contract research organizations (CROs) conducting the study and analyze the generated data.

Responsibilities
1. Designs studies, including appropriate samples and control, for assessing nutrient composition of GM plant materials.
2. Generate protocol with details of the study.
3. Evaluate CROs for their capability, feasibility and cost of compositional studies
4. Oversee sample procurement and processing for use in the compositional studies and transfer the study material to CROs in good condition.
5. Discuss protocol with CRO and ensure conduct of study as per the protocol.
6. Ensure timely completion of studies maintaining high standards of quality.
7. Analyze data generated and interpret the results.
8. Performs quality control (QC) checking / proof reading of the study reports and other documents to meet the standards for regulatory submissions.
9. Generates templates for study protocols and reports.
10. As per the requirement, manages multiple projects at any given time.
11. Ensures review/feedback on reports from stakeholders, incorporation of comments or edits and timely completion/finalization of reports.
12. Follows and tracks trial or study status for current and forthcoming projects.
13. Maintains records for all assigned projects and facilitate archiving.
14. Performs additional tasks as assigned.

Desired Profile

Knowledge, Skills, Competencies and Experience

1. Expertise and troubleshooting capability in HPLC or GC and mass spectrometry for quantification of plant metabolites (phytochemicals) and/or proteins.
2. Excellent interpersonal skills.
3. Good organizational skills with ability to manage multiple projects and to work to deadlines.
4. Good oral and written communication skills. Must have good record of producing quality technical reports and/or publications.
5. When required, ability to manage/supervise technical staff equitably and professionally
6. Ability to work as a member of a team as well as independently.
7. Knowledge of molecular biology is advantageous.

Qualifications Ph.D. in a plant biology or plant biochemistry related field with substantial bio-analytical and plant metabolism emphasis.

Candidate will be responsible to monitor clinical trials in accordance with national and international regulations and ICH-GCP guidelines by coordination with CROs for clinical study related documentation, clinical studies /trial supplies management etc.. • Periodic update on recruitment, SAE, site specific issues, and trial products issues in regular meetings (in house and with CROs)
• Monitor (pre-study, initiation, routine, and close-out visits) at investigator sites (< 25% travel) for GCP compliance according to ICH-GCP guidelines
• Obtain, review for appropriateness, and process regulatory and administrative documents from investigator sites
• Coordinate with CRO for documents related to study specific guidelines and procedures, CRFs, and monitoring procedures.
• Prepare project management reports for sponsor
• To coordinate for site specific budgets and ensure timely payments to investigators/CRO
• Obtain, review for appropriateness, and process regulatory and administrative documents from investigator sites through CROs
• Review Tables and Listings generated from study data
• Assist in writing Clinical Study Reports
• Review and verify clinical study related data, in-house, for completeness and accuracy; generate queries.
• Monitor and coordinate payments related issues with CRO
• To assist in preparation of study specific documents for sponsor (Investigator Brochure, Protocol, CSR etc)
• Compiling information from past and present animal experiments for future clinical studies/trials designs

Experience for the Posts:

Professor: A minimum of 10 years’ teaching / research / industrial experience of which at least 4 years should be at the level of Associate Professor in IITs, IISc Bangalore, IIMs, NITIE Mumbai and IISERs or at an equivalent level in any such other Indian or foreign institution(s) of comparable standards.

Associate Professor: A minimum of 6 years teaching / research / industrial experience, of which at least 3 years should be at the level of Assistant Professor or equivalent positions in IITs, IISc Bangalore, IIMs, NITIE Mumbai and IISERs or in any such other Indian or foreign institution(s) of comparable standards.

Academic reimbursements and other incentives:

a) Initial grant up to a maximum limit of ` 5 lakhs for carrying out research projects.
b) A cumulative Professional Development Allowance of ` 3.0 lakhs for every block period of 3 years (Rupees one lakh per year) may be made available to every member of the faculty on reimbursable basis to meet the expenses for participating in both national and international conferences, paying the membership fee of various professional bodies and contingent expenses.
c) An additional amount of ` 50,000/- is given from the SRIC fund to the faculty member who is the Principal Investigator of a Project amounting to at least ` 15,00,000/- and has at least three Published Papers in referred journals in the preceding three years.
d) Reimbursement of relocation charges within India / abroad of upto ` 90,000/- to the faculty members at the time of their joining.
e) Interest free soft advance of ` 50,000/- to the newly recruited faculty members.
f) Honorarium of ` 15,000/- per month to the faculty members who have obtained Bhatnagar Award OR who are fellows of at least two National Academies.
General Information
• Minimum requirement of experience may be relaxed in respect of outstanding candidates.
• Degree as referred above should have been awarded by a recognized University / Institute.
• Mere eligibility will not vest any right on any candidate for being called for interview. The decision of the Institute in all matters will be final. No correspondence will be entertained from the candidates in connection with the process of selection / interview.
• The Institute reserves the right to call only the requisite number of candidates for interview after shortlisting with reference to the candidate’s qualification, suitability, experience, requirement, etc.
• Ph.D. qualification has been waived in case of recruitment of faculty at the entry level (Assistant Professor) for the Department of Architecture & Regional Planning, Doctors for School of Medical Science & Technology and Lawyers for Rajiv Gandhi School of Intellectual Property Law.

Minimum educational Qualifications/experience M. Sc. (Life Sciences) or equivalent degree with minimum 60% marks/equivalent grade. Students appearing for the Master’s exam in 2012 may apply.

Preference Candidates who have qualified CSIR/UGC NET or valid GATE score cards will be preferred. Preferably experience in biochemical or animal cell culture techniques.

Job requirement Identification of nutraceuticals using in vitro biochemical and molecular methods, proteomics, mammalian tissue culture techniques, western blotting, etc.
